I just put this down on one of things I need to see in real life before I die. Beautiful!

I'm looking forward to taking my daughters out at night to see this. This will be their first comet. Hopefully they'll be impressed!

Early Cherry Blossoms
From today in the Safeway parking lot. My daughters always give me that exasperate look of "now what are you taking a picture of?"

Pictures from the Day
The day turned out to be pretty nice, so we decided to head to Walnut Creek and shop at Broadway Plaza. I was looking for some new shoes for work. While trying them on with dress socks, I was struck by a thought and said aloud "holy crap I look like my dad." The sales guy laughed and said "hey it's a style and you are making a statement. What that statement is I don't know."
A cool thing about Broadway Plaza is that they have a Concierge office. The office has separate bathrooms (very clean) for women, men, nursing women and family. The family restroom has a toddler toilet, which is a huge plus for families with little ones. It makes it so much easier!

Friday Morning Rainbow
"It's a little bit funny, this feeling inside." It's Friday morning, and I'm in a rush. There's an important budget meeting that I need to be on time for. Time ticks away and I grow anxious, waiting for my daughter to get ready. I head out of the house, open the garage door and walk out to the driveway to retrieve the paper. It's raining, and there's dark clouds overhead. Not good. Suddenly I notice that there's a shaft of light. The sun is peeking over the hills and sneaking through an opening in the clouds. I stop and notice the raindrops catch fire, glittering as they pass though the beam. A few seconds pass then "I wonder ..." and I slowly turn around. Yes! There is a rainbow. It's faint at first, but strengthens and covers the sky. I quickly head inside and get my daughter. "I have something to show you" I tell her and she quietly follows me out. "Turn around and look up." "Ooooooooh a rainbow!" Seconds pass in silence as we admire and observe. She turns and smiles at me, and we head back inside.
It's Friday morning, and I'm thinking about a rainbow. And my daughter's smile.

Britain's Got Talent - Paul Potts' First Audition
I know this is old, but it's still amazing. The reaction on the judge's face when he starts singing, and then the crowd's reaction - simply fabulous. Better yet - he sings opera! It's refreshing to see people get excited and emotional about opera.

Ernst Chladni and Standing Wave Patterns ((rag: random, waves, oscillation, resonance, wave, pattern
Chladni figures for a square steel plate (adapted from Waller 1961) demonstrates the fantastic variety of standing wave patterns that can arise from a simple resonating system. A square steel plate is clamped at its midpoint and sprinkled with sand. It is then set into vibration either by bowing with a violin bow, or by pressing dry ice against it. The resultant standing wave patterns are revealed by the sand, that collects at the nodes of the oscillation where the vibration is minimal.
